PETALING JAYA: Malaysian mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei secured a spot in the Australian Open quarter-finals after defeating Taiwan’s Liu Kuang-heng-Jheng Yu-chieh.
The reigning world champions took just 30 minutes for a commanding 21-16, 21-14 win at Sydney Olympic Park on Thursday (Nov 20).
Tang Jie-Ee Wei will next face the winners of the all-Taiwanese match between Ye Hong-wei-Nicole Chan and Lin Yu-chieh-Lee Chih-chen.
In men’s doubles, Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun also advanced after comfortably beating Denmark’s Christian Kjaer-Ramus Kjaer 21-11, 21-16. They will next meet either teammates Mohd Haikal Nazri-Choong Hon Jian or Indonesia’s Raymond Indra-Nikolaus Joaquin.
Goh V Shem reached the last eight with his South Korean partner Choi Sol-gyu after pulling off a 21-19, 21-13 upset over Yap Roy King-Wan Arif Wan Junaidi. V Shem and Sol-gyu will next play fellow Malaysians Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani.
