PETALING JAYA: World mixed doubles champions Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei received a timely boost ahead of next week’s Australian Open after being honoured by the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah.
Tang Jie-Ee Wei were conferred the Pingat Pekerti Terpilih (PPT) in conjunction with His Majesty’s 69th birthday celebration held at the Balairong Seri, Istana Iskandariah in Kuala Kangsar on Saturday (Nov 15).
The award recognises their outstanding achievement as Malaysia’s first-ever mixed doubles world champions after defeating China’s Wei Yaxin-Jiang Zhenbang in the final of the World Championships in Paris in August.
Adding to the occasion, Tang Jie-Ee Wei were among 238 recipients who received various state honours this year from Sultan Nazrin.
"It is a great honour to receive this award in a full royal ceremony before His Royal Highness Sultan Nazrin Shah and the royal family. Thank you for this recognition. It gives me extra motivation to keep working hard, serving the nation and making Malaysia proud," said Ee Wei.
Tang Jie-Ee Wei will now head to Sydney for the Australian Open, where they are the top seeds.
Awaiting them in the first round are compatriots Wong Tien Ci-Lim Chiew Sien, who have been struggling for form lately.
