PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian football team won’t be taking things lightly against Palestine in their friendly match at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium tomorrow.
Harimau Malaya coach Peter Cklamovski said he is preparing his charges to face a very different team compared to their previous friendly against Singapore, which Malaysia won 2-1 on Thursday.
“It’s a short turnaround for us with recovery and travel,” said Cklamovski during a press conference yesterday.
“We have to review the game against Singapore and concentrate on Palestine with more information.
“We’re looking forward to a tough game against an opponent with a very different style of play.”
Malaysia’s friendly matches are part of their preparations for the AFC Asian Cup third round qualifiers next month.
Responding to whether Malaysia would go easy on Palestine as they are facing war, Cklamovski said on the field, football remains football.
“It’s two really good teams playing football, and hopefully giving their nations pride, excitement, and something to look forward to.
“And respect to both countries on the field for that,” he said.
The Australian coach, however, revealed that Faisal Halim will not be part of the team in Johor due to the winger’s ongoing divorce case and also a minor knee issue he’s currently facing.
But Cklamovski assured that external matters have not affected Faisal’s focus on the pitch, as the time off was much needed for the Selangor player.
“Faisal’s football preparation and team commitment have been excellent.
“But he has a personal situation with his wife at the moment, which we respect. And a minor knee issue, which I believe won’t affect his football.
“Based on all those circumstances, it was the right decision for Faisal not to travel with the team,” said Cklamovski.
Meanwhile, midfielder Nooa Laine said the team’s current priority is to get themselves recovered in time to face Palestine, while studying their opponents in the best way they can.
“We as players need to do everything possible to recover both physically and mentally, to be ready for Palestine.
“A short turnaround is normal for us. We will analyse Palestine’s game and focus on the match,” he said.
