Badminton: Rexy resumes post as doubles director at BAM

KUALA LUMPUR: National badminton coaching director Rexy Mainaky will return to his previous position as doubles director at the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).

The association decided on Monday (March 24) that the Indonesian will now be in charge of the men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles squads.

Danish coach Kenneth Jonassen will handle the men’s and women’s singles, carrying out duties as singles director.

BAM acting president Datuk V. Subramaniam said the move was part of the association’s efforts to streamline the coaching department and improve efficiency, given Jonassen’s expertise in singles and Rexy’s extensive experience in doubles.

Both coaches will also oversee the development of their respective departments, from elite players to those at the junior level.

"So, with Rexy overseeing the doubles and Kenneth in charge of singles, both are experts in their respective fields.

"I believe Kenneth is fully capable of handling the singles department, and we must place our trust in him. At the same time, we want to ease Rexy's workload so he can focus entirely on the doubles sector," said Subramaniam.

This structural change is not entirely new, as Rexy previously oversaw the progress of doubles players when he rejoined BAM in 2021, working alongside Wong Choong Hann, who was then the coaching director in charge of the singles department.
