Pearly-Thinaah pull off sensational victory, capture Hong Kong Open title

Women's doubles pair Pearly Tan (right) and M. Thinaah defied the odds to capture their first title in two years in the Hong Kong Open.

PETALING JAYA: Women's doubles shuttlers ended their two-year title drought in style in the Hong Kong Open when they sensationally beat China's world No. 3 Liu Shengshu-Tan Ning in the final.

World No. 8 Pearly-Thinaah took just 38 minutes to come away with a superb 21-14, 21-14 victory at the Hong Kong Coliseum in Kowloon on Sunday (Sept 15).

It was the pair's first title win since they captured the 2022 French Open in Paris.

Just like in the French tourney, Pearly-Thinaah created history by becoming the first Malaysians in the women's doubles to win the Hong Kong Open crown.

The duo also managed to get over the finish line this time after finishing runners-up in last year's edition and in the Korean Open a fortnight ago.
