Sze Fei-Izzuddin stun world champions to win the Japan Open

PETALING JAYA: Men’s doubles pair Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani secured their biggest success on the Badminton World Federation (BWF) tour when they captured the Japan Open title in Yokohama on Sunday.

Sze Fei-Izzuddin stunned world champions Kang Min Hyuk-Seo Seung-jae of South Korea 21-19, 21-15 in the final to nail their first super 750 crown on the tour.

The Malaysians - who will become an independent pair beginning September 1 - had also reached the Asian Championships final in Ningbo but lost to world No. 1 Liang Weikeng-Wang Chang of China in April.

Previously, Sze Fei-Izzuddin had won the 2022 German Open and the 2023 US Open, which were super 300 events.

It was also a notable achievement as the last Malaysian pair to win the men’s doubles title at the Japan Open were Chan Chong Ming-Chew Choon Eng in 2002.
