Eogene stumbles but Faiq strides into boys’ singles third round

PETALING JAYA: Boys’ singles second seed Eogene Ewe (pic) was the biggest casualty as majority of the Malaysian shuttlers survived the second round of the World Junior Championships in Spokane on Tuesday.

Eogene, one of the country’s best hopes for a podium finish in the tournament, suffered a shock 21-17, 21-17 defeat to Ayush Shetty of India. The Malaysian, who received a bye in the first round, had beaten the same player in the mixed team event last week where Malaysia defeated India 3-0 to reach the semi-finals.
