Siti on brink of capturing Under-16 title

PETALING JAYA: National women’s singles shuttler Siti Zulaikha Azmi (pic) is on the brink of capturing the 100Plus Junior Elite tour title after storming into the girls’ Under-16 final.

Zulaikha edged Clarissa San 21-19, 21-18 at the Juara Stadium in Bukit Kiara to set up a meeting with Penang’s Oo Shan Zi in the final today.

Shan Zi had fought her way past Carmen Ting 17-21, 21-17, 21-17 in the other match-up.

The boys’ Under-16 final will be between Mohd Faiq Haziq and Lok Hong Quan after both recorded identical 21-16, 21-14 victories over Kee Is Qian and Kong Zhou Swin respectively.

In the Under-16 girls’ doubles, Carmen and Clarissa made up for their disappointments by combining with Ong Xin Yee and Tan Zhing Hui respectively to reach the final.

Carmen-Xin Yee beat Zulaikha-Noraqilah Maisarah, 21-16, 18-21, 21-18 while Clarissa-Zhing Hui survived a tight second game to defeat Selangor’s Eng Ler Qi-Lee Yu Shan 21-11, 27-25.
