Zii Jia through to second round of Malaysian Open


KUALA LUMPUR: World No 5 Lee Zii Jia cruised to the second round of the Malaysian Open badminton championships at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil on Wednesday (June 29).

Zii Jia defeated Nhat Nguyen (Ire) 21-15.

Men's doubles pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik also did not disappoint local fans as they too made it to the second round.

They beat Akira Koga-Taichi Saito 21-18, 21-19.

Women's doubles pairs Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah and Anna Cheong-Teoh Mei Xing also cleared their first round hurdles.

New mixed doubles combination Chen Tang Jie-Veleree Siow added further cheer to hosts Malaysia after storming into the second round.
