PETALING JAYA: National No. 1 men's singles shuttler Lee Zii Jia captured his first title as an independent player after defeating Indonesia's Jonatan Christie in the final of the Badminton Asia Championships in Manila.
The Malaysian, who is ranked seventh in the world standings, played a superb match and managed to maintain his composure in the second set to triumph 21-17, 23-21 over the in-form Christie.
This is Zii Jia's first individual title since winning the All-England in 2021.
Meanwhile, men's doubles pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik failed to make it a double joy for Malaysia when they went down 21-23, 10-21 to Indonesian youngsters Pramudya Kusumawardana-Yeremia Rambitan.
