A healthier Jin Wei hopes to hit Purple patch


PETALING JAYA: Three months after leaving the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) due to health reasons, former national No. 1 Goh Jin Wei will be making a comeback as one of the stars for Butterworth BC in the Purple League Pro-Am starting on Dec 21.

Butterworth BC are the top seeds among the 10 teams while the matches will be played at the Precinct 11 Community Complex in Putrajaya.

The teams will be divided into two groups and will compete in a round-robin format with the top two advancing to the semi-finals.

Besides Jin Wei, the others in the team are Ng Eng Cheong, Teh Zi Yi, Wyman Goh Wai Yap, Lim Jing Ning, Ch’ng Choo Hann, Samuel Lee, Ong Yang Sheng, Isabel Liau Bei Yi, Teoh Lexuan, Wong Ling Ching, Chee Yik Shen and Kelvin Lim.

Team manager Tommy Lee Sau Wah hopes with the 2017 SEA Games champion Jin Wei in his side, they will do well.

“We are lucky to be the top seed and are aiming for at least a spot in the semi-finals. All the other teams are strong too and I’m expecting my players to give their very best.”

Jin Wei’s team are in Group A with DSBC Labuan, Bangi City BC, Seremban City BC, and Serdang BC. In Group B are Ampang Jaya BC, Jinjang BC, Petaling Jaya BC, Rawang BC and Bandar Maharani BC.
