PETALING JAYA: Lee Chong Wei's (pic) bid for a seventh Indonesia Open title is over.

Japan's Kento Momota dashed the defending champion hopes of securing a back-to-back win with a 23-21, 21-12 win in the semi-final in Jakarta on Saturday.

Chong Wei, the Malaysian Open champion, went the distance in the first game but the effects of playing two tournaments in a row took its toll on the 36-year-old as he failed to recover.

The younger 23-year-old Momota, wrapped up the second game in quick fashion to avenge his defeat to Chong Wei in the Malaysian Open final in Bukit Jalil last Sunday.

Momota will play Denmark's reigning world champion Viktor Axelsen in the final on Sunday.

Axelsen overcame China's reigning All-England champion Shi Yuqi 18-21, 21-14, 21-11 earlier.

Chong Wei previously won the Indonesia Open in 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2016.
