KUALA LUMPUR: The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) received a tremendous boost when they were Victor-ious in securing a multi-million ringgit deal.
On Tuesday, the BAM signed a six-year RM60mil sponsorship deal by appointing Victor as their new equipment partner for the national team.
The partnership with Victor at the Stadium Juara in Bukit Kiara ended a 15-year tie with Sunrise Yonex.
BAM’s other sponsor is Maybank with a deal that is worth RM49mil over seven years.
Their president Tan Sri Tengku Mahaleel Tengku Arif said the huge boost would lead to a bigger and better programme for both the elite and junior shuttlers in the national team.
Besides being the equipment sponsor, Victor will also assist the players through their research and development programme.
Victor will also “adopt” potential players for six to eight years in a bid to boost their careers.
“We are delighted to announce our six-year partnership with Victor. Five companies have put in their bids but Victor offered unique features and flexibility. It swung our deal with them,” said Tengku Mahaleel.
“Their RM60mil deal make them among the top two biggest sponsors for the BAM.
“By working together we hope to become the number one badminton nation once again.”
Tengku Mahaleel also made a special mention to their previous sponsor Yonex.
“Sunrise Yonex have been with us for the last 15 years and helped us to be where we are today. We thank them for their support,” he added.
Meanwhile, BAM’s secretary Ng Chin Chai said that only world No. 3 Lee Chong Wei had been exempted from using Victor equipments as he is still under contract with Yonex.
