Loh Wei Sheng reached the height of his career when he finished as the boys

KUALA LUMPUR: Shuttler Loh Wei Sheng has decided to quit the national team to concentrate on his studies.

The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) confirmed on Friday that Wei Sheng, who is now doing his A Level at Help Institute, had resigned after spending four years in the back-up squad.

Wei Sheng reached the height of his career when he finished as the boys’ singles runner-up in the 2010 Asian Junior Championships, but his career took a nosedive after that.

Wei Sheng, who scored 7As and 1B in his Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) and 7As and 3Bs in his Sijil Pelajaran Menengah (SPM), was an early-round casualty in every international tournaments he competed in over the last one year.

Except for Chong Wei, Daren and Iskandar, all the others have been entered for two international tournaments next week. Teck Zhi, Yee Han, Joo Ven, Azriyn, Soon Huat, Giap Chin will take part in the Malaysia Open Grand Prix Gold in Pasir Gudang on Wednesday while two others – Kian Meng and June Wei – will compete in the Vietnam International Challenge in Hanoi on Wednesday.
