PETALING JAYA: Shereen Samson Vallabouy’s hopes of another Asian Games medal ended in the first round after she failed to qualify for the women’s 400m final at the Aichi-Nagoya Games.
Shereen, who won bronze at Hangzhou 2022, started strongly in the third heat at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium and moved into the lead despite running from lane seven.
However, she was overtaken by three runners over the final 100m and finished fourth in 54.03s, which was not enough to take her through to the final.
Iran’s Zahra Manouja won the heat in 52.00s, followed by Uzbekistan’s Jonbibi Humova in 52.05 and India’s Prachi in 53.46.
Meanwhile, Umar Osman’s campaign in the men’s 400m also ended in the first round after he failed to qualify for the final.
Running from lane seven in the second heat, Umar stayed in the mix early on but was unable to keep pace with the frontrunners and finished sixth in 46.91sec.
India’s Vishal Thennarasu won the heat in 45.27sec, while Qatar’s Ammar Ibrahim took second in 45.31sec, with both advancing to the final.
