PETALING JAYA: National sprint ace Mohd Azeem Fahmi booked his place in the men’s 100m final at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Friday (Sept 25).
Running in lane five in the third semi-final at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium, Azeem finished second in 10.25sec behind South Korea’s Joeljin Nwamadi, who clocked 10.17.
Azeem’s effort was enough to secure his place in the final, which will be held at 9pm Malaysian time today.
Mohd Umaira Subri, however, missed out after finishing seventh in the first semi-final.
Despite failing to advance, Umaira still had something to smile about after clocking a personal best of 10.39.
Thailand’s Puripol Boonson produced the standout performance of the semi-finals, with the silver medallist from the previous Games setting a new Games record of 9.91.
