Thailand's Puripol breaks 10-second barrier, Danish sets new personal best in 100m heats

BANGKOK: Thailand’s sprint sensation Puripol Boonson lit up the Supachalasai Stadium after smashing the SEA Games record with a blistering 9.94s in the 100m heats on Thursday (Nov 11).

The 18-year-old became the first Southeast Asian sprinter to dip below 10 seconds on home soil, underlining his status as the region’s fastest man.

In the same race, Singapore’s Marc Brian Louis finished second in 10.38s, while Malaysia’s Jonathan Nyepa came in third with 10.48s.

The previous Games record of 10.17s, set by Indonesia’s Surya Agong Wibowo in 2009, was shattered.

Malaysia enjoyed a boost of their own as Danish Iftikhar Mohd Roslee and Jonathan both qualified for the final with Danish celebrating a sweet personal milestone after rewriting his personal best in Bangkok.

Danish rewrote his personal best by winning his heat with a time of 10.18s at the Supachalasai Stadium on Thursday (Nov 11).

His previous best was 10.26s, which he clocked at the Malaysian Open in August.
