TOKYO (Reuters) -Evan Dunfee of Canada won the first gold medal of the World Athletics Championships in the 35-km race walk in Tokyo on Saturday.

Dunfee finished in two hours, 28 minutes and 22 seconds, edging past Caio Bonfim of Brazil, who won silver, while Masatora Kawano took bronze for hosts Japan.
