Grace Wong smashes national hammer throw record to win gold at Malaysian Open

PETALING JAYA: National hammer thrower Grace Wong struck gold in style at the Malaysian Open in Perlis after smashing her own national record on Saturday (Aug 30).

The 25-year-old threw a distance of 63.53m during her second attempt at the Tuanku Syed Putra Stadium in Kangar, surpassing her previous mark of 62.48m set at the 2021 Malaysian Open in Bukit Jalil.

Grace’s impressive effort secured her the gold medal ahead of Algeria’s Zahra Tatar (61.37m) and South Korea’s Park Seo-jin (59.13m).

The performance is a major boost for Grace, whose season best prior to this was 59.15m at the Asian Track and Field Championships in Gumi, South Korea in May.
