BANDUNG: National squad interim head coach Tan Cheng Hoe believes that the high level of discipline possessed by Arif Aiman Hanapi is a key factor in the development of the sensational Harimau Malaya winger.
Cheng Hoe noted that the 24-year-old Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) player not only possesses exceptional individual technical ability but also demonstrates a professional attitude both on and off the pitch.
"In terms of talent, Arif is truly special; he possesses extraordinary individual technical skills.
"Crucially, he is a disciplined individual both on and off the field,” said the 58-year-old coach when met during the national team's training session ahead of the FIFA Asean campaign here.
Malaysia will face Singapore in their final Group A match at the Si Jalak Harupat Stadium here tonight (Oct 1), a game that will determine which team advances to the final
Cheng Hoe said Arif's experience playing for JDT at the highest level in Asia has provided him with valuable exposure to high-quality players and teams.
However, Cheng Hoe believes there is still room for the player to further improve his game and continue developing in the future.
"We hope Arif has plenty of room to keep growing.
""He is certainly a highly dedicated and disciplined player," he said.
Arif has emerged as a key figure for Malaysia in the FIFA Asean Cup campaign so far, having scored two goals to help the national team defeat Bangladesh 3-0 in their Group A opener at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta.
He also drew attention during the goalless draw against Indonesia in the second group match, delivering an energetic performance and successfully holding his own against the host team's defenders of mixed heritage who play in top European leagues. - Bernama
