PETALING JAYA: Many players would slow down after recovering from an injury, but not Johor Darul Ta’zim’s (JDT) Syahmi Safari.

In fact, the 28-year-old wingback says one cannot take their foot off the pedal when playing for a high-calibre team like JDT.

Last week, they pulled off a 4-0 victory over Penang, a result that leaves them just two wins away from sealing a 12th consecutive league title.

“We are a team that never slow down.

“We will keep improving game by game and aim to perform even better.”

Syahmi has featured in 14 matches across all competitions since returning from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury last November.

“Clean sheets are the result of collective effort. We never rest on our laurels.

“We want to carry this momentum into our upcoming matches, especially on the continental stage,” said Syahmi.

Argentine winger Manuel Hidalgo also echoed Syahmi’s sentiment on his team’s high work ethics.

“We never relax – that is the standard we hold ourselves to,” he said.

JDT’s next challenge comes on the continental stage, when they face Japan’s Sanfrecce Hiroshima in the first leg of their AFC Champions League Elite Round of 16 tie at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium on Wednesday.

JDT are currently on a 35-match winning streak, a run that is still ongoing, while also boasting a 102-match unbeaten streak and an 82-game unbeaten run on home soil.

They at the top of the Super League table, with 54 points from 18 matches.

They now hold an 18-point advantage over second-placed Selangor, who have 36 points from the same number of games.
