Virandeep Singh
KUALA LUMPUR: Virandeep Singh has become the first Malaysian cricketer to be included in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 Player Auction, scheduled to take place in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates, according to the Malaysian Cricket Association (MCA).
MCA president Mahinda Vallipuram described the milestone as a significant achievement for both the player and Malaysian cricket.
"This is indeed a great acknowledgement of Virandeep’s talent, commitment, and consistent achievements throughout his playing career.
"His inclusion in the IPL Auction reflects the progress Malaysian cricket has made and the growing recognition of our players on the global stage,” he said in a statement today.
Vallipuram also expressed appreciation to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for recognising the potential and ability of a Malaysian cricketer to compete at the highest levels of the game.
Virandeep Singh has previously featured in several international franchise tournaments, including the Canadian Premier League, International League T20 and the Nepal Premier League, gaining valuable experience against world-class players.
Meanwhile, Virandeep described the inclusion a proud moment for him and for Malaysian cricket.
"I am grateful for the support from MCA, my coaches, teammates, and family.
"Being part of the IPL Auction motivates me to continue working hard and to represent Malaysia with pride wherever I play," he said.
The MCA believe they have a growing pool of players with the talent and ability to perform at higher professional levels and Virandeep’s achievement serves as an inspiration for the next generation of Malaysian cricketers. - Bernama
