The goal that broke Fandi’s record is one Josue will savour forever

PETALING JAYA: When you have scored 70 goals for a club, it’s hard to choose which one is your favourite.

For Kuala Lumpur captain Paulo Josue, the most memorable one was when he etched his name in the club’s history books as their all-time leading scorer.

The 35-year-old Brazilian said his best goal for the City Boys was when he broke Fandi Ahmad’s record of 67 goals when he scored two in their 5-0 win against Kedah in the Super League at the Cheras Stadium last month.

Josue scored his 68th goal from just outside the box from an assist by Ryan Lambert, giving the club their fourth goal in the 49th minute, before doubling it for himself in the 58th minute.

“So far my best goal for the club was when I broke Fandi Ahmad’s record during the match against Kedah.

“It was a long range kick, the assist was by Lambert.

“I just aimed for the bottom corner and I broke Fandi’s record,” said Paulo.

He has since extended his record by scoring another goal during Kuala Lumpur’s 4-2 over Penang last month.

Josue joined Kuala Lumpur in 2017 and has stayed with the City Boys ever since, through all the good and tough times.

Kuala Lumpur currently sit in eighth place in the Super League table with 11 points and will be preparing for their next fixture against Kelantan tomorrow.

As captain of the club, Josue has been by his teammates’ side through the issues of salary arrears, which hopefully will be solved soon with the arrival of new Kuala Lumpur Football Association (KLFA) president Syed Yazid Syed Omar.

The players recently received one month’s salary along with their Employees Provident Fund (EPF) and Social Security Organisation (Socso) contributions.
