Let the flag fly high for National Day

LET us display our patriotism and unity as we count down the days until our 66th National Day.

The government has called for Malaysians to fly the Jalur Gemilang, and it would be good if we could respond in full force. In fact, we shouldn’t have to be reminded year in year out to fly the Jalur Gemilang. It should be in our nature to do so by now.

At the same time, we must be sensitive towards matters relating to flying the flag. Do not fool around or make light of it. If you are unsure of the dos and don’ts, please refer to the authorities such as the Information Department of Malaysia.

I would also like to call on all Malaysians to uphold the five principles of the Rukun Negara. We have a shared responsibility in promoting these principles, which are the pillars of our nation-building.

We also have a duty to preserve our nation’s harmony, peace and unity.
