LAST week, I checked the Election Commission (EC) link at spr.gov.my to find out where my place of voting will be for the 15th General Election (GE15). I confirmed it was at SMK Sek 4, Kota Damansara, Petaling Jaya, the same place where I voted during GE14 in 2018.
Yesterday morning, I happened to check again and was shocked that my polling station is now at SMK Sek 8, Kota Damansara! It was the same for my wife and son too.
My question is, why the sudden move to a different location? What will happen if on polling day, Nov 19, my wife and I, who are both senior citizens, present ourselves at SMK Sek 4 only to be told that we are not at the right place? Lucky for us, I double-checked, if not we would have gone on a wild goose chase on Nov 19.
Regrettably, there was no notification or reminder from the EC to inform us that we need to check with their site again! What about those folk without access to the Internet? There must be a way that the EC can reach out to the voters – perhaps through radio and TV networks?
My contention is that the EC can do a much better job in ensuring this “mother of all general elections” is a success with a high voter turnout.
To all voters, my humble advise is to please check and keep checking the EC site to know where you will be voting before it is too late.
Your vote counts – together we can make a difference!
