I WELCOME the recent initiative of the government to declassify confidential reports and make them public. These include the investigation report on the claims made by former attorney general Tan Sri Tommy Thomas in his memoir, My Story: Justice in the Wilderness, the review on the three contested islands (Batu Puteh, Batuan Tengah and Tubir Selatan) and the report on the troubled littoral combat ship (LCS) project.

As a progressive move, the government should conduct a similar exercise on the thousands of annual consultancy studies conducted and paid for by its various ministries and agencies both at the federal and state levels.
