Useful travel safety tips for the season

THE end of the year is always a busy travel period, with most Malaysians going on the balik kampung exodus. All modes of transport – sea, land, air – see an increase in volume of traffic, even during this Covid-19 pandemic. In our eagerness to travel though, we must not forget the risks involved, what more with a pandemic requiring us to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs). Here are brief travel tips that bear noting.

Air travel safety: Air travel requires generous lead time to get to the airport and check in on time. Have your documents ready, arrange airport transfers, anticipate delays and build in extra time. For carry-on luggage, stick to the correct size and keep weight to a minimum so it won’t pose a risk when being retrieved from the overhead compartment.

Pay attention to the safety briefing on the aircraft. In an emergency you may not be able to see the exits so make a mental note of the number of rows between your seat and the exits.
