NOW that the Immigration Department has set up kiosks at KLIA for travellers to check their status, it is advisable for Malaysians to check on their status before proceeding to the immigration counters.
They can also check via the department’s website before they purchase air tickets or holiday packages as it is usually impossible to have refunds in event that they are barred from travelling overseas.
The website is www.imi.gov.my. Once there, click “Semakan Status Kawalan Imigresen untuk Warganegara Malaysia – Blacklist (SSPI)” and key in the IC number to check on the status.
Travellers who are at the airport early may be able to resolve the problem provided that they are travelling on weekdays and during office hours where they can contact the parties concerned.
It will also require some time for the right persons to be contacted and decisions to be made and to inform the department to release them from the blacklist.
At least 800,000 Malaysians are barred from travelling overseas so it is advisable for them to check the status before travelling.
