Common sense prevails – with millions of ringgit saved

COMMON sense has finally prevailed — the government has decided that hosting the 2026 Commonwealth Games does not make sense for Malaysia, no thanks to the astronomical costs and a tight timeline.Already Victoria, which won the bid to host the Games, withdrew last year citing escalating costs which may reach up to A$7bil (RM21.7bil).

The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) offered Malaysia the job instead with a £100mil (RM603mil) sweetener, but in this day and age when the cost of hosting any event can be sky-high, it does not make sense for Malaysia to play saviour.
