Talent show showcases charm of Chinese culture in Botswana

GABORONE, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese talent show and graduation ceremony was held on Saturday by the Confucius Institute at the University of Botswana in Gaborone, the capital of Botswana, to showcase local students' Chinese proficiency and the beauty of Chinese culture.

Nomsa Kelepile, who celebrated her 13th birthday on Saturday, emerged as this year's champion among eight contestants, who showcased their talents through dubbing, storytelling, singing, poetry recitation and dancing.

Emmanuel Moswela, the manager of the Department of Student Life and Experience at the University of Botswana, described the event as an opportunity to showcase the students' talent for the Chinese language.

He said the performance brought China closer to those people who had never been to the country, while the graduation ceremony recognized students who had completed their Chinese language studies, marking an important milestone in their learning journey.

Speaking as the valedictorian, Sharon Khumomotse said the Chinese language served as a bridge connecting people from different countries. Her two trips to China had further strengthened her interest in Chinese culture.

She said that Botswana's President Duma Boko's recent state visit to China would deepen friendly relations, exchanges and cooperation between the two countries and pave the way for a brighter future.

"I hope more people will come to the Confucius Institute to learn Chinese," she added.
