Ghana demands justice after 2 citizens killed in New York

ACCRA, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- Ghana's diplomatic mission in New York on Wednesday called for justice after a second Ghanaian died in the city within a week.

The statement, issued by Ghana's Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, expressed shock and sadness over the tragic death of 24-year-old Joseph Owusu under yet-unexplained circumstances, just days after another Ghanaian national was killed in the city.

"I have been shocked and saddened by this tragic news, especially coming on the heels of the horrible news of the killing of 15-year-old Javits Frimpong, also in the Bronx, New York," Ghana's Minister for Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said in the statement.

The statement said Ablakwa assured the bereaved family that the government of Ghana stands firmly with them and will work with relevant authorities and agencies of the U.S. government to ensure that justice is served.

The statement added that the police in the Bronx have indicated to the family that an autopsy is being conducted on the body of the late Joseph Owusu as investigations continue.
