US democrats take early lead in house races as counting begins

HAMILTON: Democrats won 56 seats in the US House of Representatives and Republicans 28, according to Associated Press (AP) race calls as of 9.06pm Eastern Time (0206GMT) on Tuesday (Nov 3), with 351 races still uncalled, Anadolu Ajansi reported.

All 435 House seats are up for election in the midterms, and a party needs 218 for a majority.

The AP declared victory for Democratic Reps. Joyce Beatty, Emilia Sykes and Shontel Brown in Ohio's House races, while Suhas Subramanyam was elected in Virginia's 10th District.

Republican Rep. S. Guthrie was elected in Kentucky's 2nd District, while Sydney Gruters was elected in Florida's 16th District. – Bernama
