BRATISLAVA, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- Two people were killed in a collision between a bus and a car in eastern Slovakia on Sunday, according to the Slovak Fire and Rescue Corps Operations Center in the Presov Region.

The Presov Regional Police Directorate said on social media that the R4 expressway bypass near Svidnik had been closed following the accident. Police officers, firefighters and emergency responders were dispatched to the scene.

According to Petra Klimesova, spokesperson for the Emergency Medical Service Operations Center, three ambulances and two rescue helicopters were sent to the scene. The number of injured people has yet to be confirmed.

Police said the 34-year-old bus driver was taken to hospital after the collision. He underwent a breathalyser test, and the result was negative.

Three people were travelling in the car, including a 72-year-old man and a 69-year-old woman, both of whom died at the scene. The third passenger was a nine-year-old child who sustained serious head injuries. He was airlifted to a hospital, police said.

The authorities have arranged another bus for the passengers of the damaged vehicle. A post-trauma support team was also deployed to the scene, while a traffic accident expert was called in to assist with the investigation.

Police said the cause and circumstances of the accident were under investigation.
