AMMAN, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- Jordanian security forces seized nine automatic firearms and GPS devices from a bag smuggled into the country using hot air balloons in the southern governorate of Karak, the Public Security Directorate said on Saturday.
The directorate's spokesperson said Karak Police responded to a report of a suspicious bag in the governorate's Muhi area and confiscated the weapons.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the bag had been carried by winds from Jordan's southern border area, the spokesperson said.
The seizure comes a week after gunmen opened fire on civilians attending a funeral at a church in the village of Hmoud in Karak, killing nine people and injuring several others, according to official Jordanian statements.
Jordanian authorities later announced the arrest of three suspects in connection with the attack following a security operation.
