TONGYEONG, South Korea, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- China's Lin Xinyu successfully defended her title at the 2026 World Triathlon Cup Tongyeong on Saturday, leading a Chinese one-two finish in the women's elite race as compatriot Huang Anqi claimed silver.
Lin, who secured China's first gold medal in the World Triathlon Cup series last week in Beijing, crossed the finish line in 56 minutes, 42 seconds, three seconds ahead of Huang, who recorded a personal best of 56:45.
Both Chinese athletes remained with the leading group through the swimming and cycling legs before Huang briefly moved ahead during the run.
However, Huang received a 10-second penalty at the end of the first lap, allowing Lin and Portugal's Mariana Vargem to battle for the lead.
Lin made her decisive move on an uphill section, pulling clear of Vargem before maintaining her advantage to the finish.
Huang recovered from her penalty to overtake several competitors and secure second place, completing a historic one-two finish for China.
"I managed to maintain the physical condition and form I had during the previous World Cup in Beijing. I made sound decisions throughout the race and was able to fully showcase my training," Lin said.
Huang celebrated sharing the podium with her teammate and said the result provided encouragement as both athletes pursued Olympic qualification.
"I am thrilled to share the podium with my teammate; this is a historic moment for Chinese triathlon," Huang said.
"Moving forward, we will continue to focus on every event as we strive to secure Olympic qualification."
