WELLINGTON, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- New Zealand petrol and diesel prices rose in September from a month earlier, while annual food price inflation accelerated, official data showed on Friday.
Petrol prices increased 6.4 percent and diesel prices grew 7.8 percent in September compared with August, according to the statistics department Stats NZ.
Supply disruptions that began in late February contributed to higher fuel prices in March and April. Prices then declined through July before rising again in August and September, Stats NZ prices and deflators spokesperson Nicola Growden said in a statement.
"Although prices in September were above March levels, they were still below the peak recorded in April," Growden was quoted as saying.
In the year to September 2026, petrol prices rose 24.3 percent and diesel prices increased 55.8 percent, statistics showed.
Meanwhile, food prices increased 2.4 percent in the year to September, up from a 1.9-percent annual rise in the year to August 2026, Stats NZ said.
