NEW YORK, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended mixed on Thursday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 51.77 points, or 0.10 percent, to 51,231.64. The S&P 500 sank 36.41 points, or 0.47 percent, to 7,765.36. The Nasdaq Composite Index shed 345.35 points, or 1.25 percent, to 27,193.34.
Six of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with energy and consumer staples leading the gainers by going up 2.92 percent and 2.12 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, technology and consumer discretionary led the laggards by losing 1.78 percent and 0.47 percent, respectively.
