1st LD: Romanian president designates Luca Niculescu to form gov't

BUCHAREST, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Romanian President Nicusor Dan designated Luca Niculescu, state secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to form the government on Monday evening, according to Romania's national news agency Agerpres.

Following a fresh round of consultations held at Cotroceni Palace with parliamentary parties and groups, Dan announced the nomination.

Luca Niculescu, born in 1971, has been the state secretary at Romania's Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 2022.

This is the fourth time Dan has nominated a prime minister this year. He has nominated his adviser Eugen Tomac, President of the Brasov County Council Adrian Vestea and liberal European lawmaker Siegfried Muresan. Tomac resigned and Romanian parliament rejected the cabinets proposed by Vestea and Muresan.
