Chinese carmaker Chery tops Israel's car sales in Jan.-Sept.


JERUSALEM, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- The Jaecoo 5, a subcompact crossover SUV made by Chinese automaker Chery, was the best-selling car model in Israel in the first three quarters of 2026, according to figures issued by the Israel Vehicle Importers Association on Friday.

A total of 10,972 units of the Jaecoo 5, including hybrid, gasoline, and fully electric versions, were sold in Israel during the nine months.

The second-best-selling model was Hyundai's Kona subcompact crossover SUV, with 10,282 units sold, followed by Chery's Jaecoo 7 compact crossover SUV, with 9,567 units.

Chery was also the best-selling automaker in Israel during the period, with 57,821 cars sold. It was followed by Japan's Toyota, with 24,026 cars and South Korea's Hyundai, with 22,197 cars.

Chinese automakers dominated Israel's overall vehicle market, selling 116,739 cars between January and September. South Korean brands ranked second with 39,068 cars, followed by Japanese automakers with 26,228.

In the electric vehicle segment, China's XPeng Motors led sales with its G6 midsize crossover SUV, with 4,282 units sold during the same period. It was followed by Tesla's Model Y compact crossover SUV, with 3,093 units, and the Deepal S05 electric compact crossover SUV, produced by China's Changan Automobile, with 2,714 units.
