Extended heat wave to hit Southern California

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- Southern California is bracing for an extended heat wave starting Friday and continuing through next week, with temperatures expected to rise by about 8 to 11 degrees Celsius above normal, according to the U.S. National Weather Service (NWS).

The NWS Los Angeles office has issued an Extreme Heat Watch for much of Santa Barbara, Ventura, and Los Angeles counties. The extended heat wave is expected to last until at least next Thursday.

The NWS warned that the temperature could reach 95 to over 105 degrees Fahrenheit (35 to over 40 degrees Celsius) in most areas of Southern California.

The weather agency also warned of a high risk of large and fast-moving fires in valleys and mountains.
