HARARE, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Tuesday delivered the State of the Nation Address, marking the official opening of the fourth session of the country's 10th Parliament.
Speaking at the parliament building in Mount Hampden, about 19 km from the capital, Harare, Mnangagwa said the government has consolidated gains in currency and exchange-rate stability, supported by strong foreign-currency inflows.
"The macro-economic gains were achieved through deepening the financial sector institutional framework and, henceforth, ensure continued confidence in the country's macro-economic environment," Mnangagwa said.
Agriculture recorded a 27.9 percent increase, contributing 2.2 percentage points to Zimbabwe's 8.3 percent gross domestic product growth in 2025, Mnangagwa said. However, he warned that the 2026/2027 agricultural season across the region is projected to experience below-normal rainfall.
To mitigate drought impacts, Mnangagwa said the government has introduced a six-pillar resilience plan covering an enhanced strategic grain reserve, climate-smart production, an integrated financing framework, livestock drought mitigation, coordination and early warning, as well as capacity building.
On the industrial and mining sectors, Mnangagwa highlighted that mining remains a core pillar, with the government promoting mineral exploration and local processing.
"In line with our thrust on mineral beneficiation and value addition, we take pride in that we recently recorded the first locally-produced lithium sulphate from Africa. Additional lithium sulphate plants are being established around the country," he said, noting that expansion works in gold, platinum, and iron and steel are also reshaping the country's industrial base.
On infrastructure, Mnangagwa pledged continued road rehabilitation, construction, and prioritized railway development.
