NEW YORK, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended lower on Tuesday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 131.59 points, or 0.26 percent, to 51,349.92. The S&P 500 sank 12.85 points, or 0.17 percent, to 7,670.84. The Nasdaq Composite Index shed 22.84 points, or 0.09 percent, to 26,797.541.
Seven of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in red, with energy and materials leading the laggards by losing 0.89 percent and 0.55 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, utilities and communication services led the gainers by going up 1.14 percent and 0.40 percent, respectively.
