NEW YORK, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar strengthened in late trading on Tuesday.
The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, added 0.17 percent to 101.372 at 3 p.m. (1900 GMT).
In late New York trading, the euro fell to 1.1341 dollars from 1.1368 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound was down to 1.3229 dollars from 1.3261 dollars in the previous session.
The U.S. dollar bought 157.22 Japanese yen, lower than 157.4 Japanese yen in the previous session. The U.S. dollar advanced to 0.8336 Swiss francs from 0.8319 Swiss francs, and it rose to 1.4178 Canadian dollars from 1.4171 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar was up to 9.9892 Swedish kronor from 9.9537 Swedish kronor.
