BERLIN, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- One man died and at least 25 others were injured in a fire at a care facility in Berlin on Saturday, according to the fire department in the capital.
German newspaper Tagesspiegel reported that firefighters were alerted shortly before 10 a.m. Preliminary findings indicated that the fire started in a patient's room which was engulfed in flames and completely destroyed. Heavy smoke spread throughout the five-story building in the Kreuzberg district.
Among the injured, one person was in life-threatening condition and had to be resuscitated, while the others sustained minor injuries, mostly from smoke inhalation, a fire department spokesperson said.
All residents were evacuated from the building and received medical care. The fire was brought under control and fully extinguished by early afternoon.
The cause of the fire remains unclear.
