KIGALI, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- The first Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Report of Chinese Enterprises and Institutions in Rwanda was officially launched on Thursday in Rwanda's capital, Kigali.
The event was co-hosted by the China Chamber of Commerce in Rwanda and the Alliance of Chinese Business in Africa for Social Responsibilities, with about 120 people in attendance.
Speaking at the event, Chinese Ambassador to Rwanda Gao Wenqi said responsible business conduct is central to building trust and ensuring that economic cooperation produces sustainable results for both countries.
He said the Chinese government is committed to guiding Chinese enterprises operating abroad to comply with the laws and regulations of both China and host countries, regulate their business conduct, maintain sound market order, promote industry self-discipline and continuously improve their social and environmental performance.
The CSR report, he said, represents an important milestone in documenting Chinese companies' contributions and demonstrating their willingness to strengthen transparency, accountability and engagement with local communities.
Chief Executive Officer of Rwanda Private Sector Federation Callixte Kanamugire said Chinese enterprises have become important partners in Rwanda's economic and social development, with their involvement extending across infrastructure construction, manufacturing, mining, ICT, trade and other sectors.
"Responsible business is not only good for society; it is also good for companies," he said, noting that responsible enterprises can build trust, reduce risks and establish stronger foundations for long-term development.
Diao Chunhe, executive president of the Alliance of Chinese Business in Africa for Social Responsibilities, encouraged Chinese enterprises in Rwanda to continue to deepen local integration, stay focused on improving people's livelihoods and strengthen communication and outreach.
According to organizers, the CSR report provides an overview of the social, economic and environmental contributions of Chinese enterprises operating in Rwanda. It highlights practices in empowering modernization, strengthening human capital, safeguarding health, improving livelihoods, promoting green development and conducting responsible investment.
