YAOUNDE, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- At least three people were killed and two others injured when gunmen opened fire at a bar in Cameroon's conflict-hit Northwest region Monday, witnesses and security sources said.
The attack occurred in Bamenda, the chief town of the region, when armed men arrived on motorcycles and fired on the bar patrons.
"The gunmen arrived on motorcycles and started shooting at people who were drinking at the bar. They killed a woman and two men," a resident, who requested anonymity after witnessing the incident, told Xinhua by phone Monday evening.
Security sources said two people were killed on the spot, while a third victim later died from his injuries.
The shooting comes as clashes have escalated in Cameroon's English-speaking Northwest and Southwest regions, where separatist fighters are seeking to enforce a weeklong lockdown that began Monday, Sept. 7.
Police security reports indicate at least 10 people, including civilians, separatist fighters and soldiers, have been killed since the lockdown started.
Cameroon's two Anglophone regions have been gripped by an armed separatist conflict since 2017, with armed groups seeking to establish an independent state.
