Zverev beats Shelton to claim men's singles title at US Open

NEW YORK, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- Top seed Alexander Zverev of Germany won over home player Ben Shelton 6-3, 7-6 (2), 5-7, 6-2 in the men's singles final of US Open on Sunday.

This marks Zverev's second grand slam singles title after his triumph at Roland Garros this year.

Zverev took victory in all previous five matches against Shelton and had a smooth start to win the first set 6-3 in the US Open final.

The eighth seed American bounced back a little bit to force the second set to a tie-breaker, but Zverev still managed to win 7-6 (2). Then, Shelton won 90 percent on first serve to take a 7-5 win in the third set.

In the fourth set, the 29-year-old Zverev didn't give Shelton many chances to break early and seal the victory 6-2.
