U.S. stocks close lower


NEW YORK, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended lower on Tuesday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 628.18 points, or 1.18 percent, to 52,786.07. The S&P 500 sank 45.08 points, or 0.58 percent, to 7,673.52. The Nasdaq Composite Index shed 85.58 points, or 0.32 percent, to 26,421.41.

Eight of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in the red, with health and financials leading the laggards by dropping 2.55 percent and 1.43 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, energy and utilities led the gainers by adding 1.01 percent and 0.85 percent, respectively.
