NEW YORK, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar increased in late trading on Tuesday.
The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, rose 0.25 percent to 99.677 at 3 p.m. (1900 GMT).
In late New York trading, the euro dropped to 1.159 U.S. dollars from 1.1616 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound decreased to 1.3514 dollars from 1.355 dollars in the previous session.
The U.S. dollar bought 160.20 Japanese yen, higher than 159.80 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar rose to 0.8118 Swiss francs from 0.8083 Swiss francs, and it climbed to 1.3894 Canadian dollars from 1.3855 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar rose to 9.6188 Swedish kronor from 9.5767 Swedish kronor.
