LOS ANGELES, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- Sony and Marvel's superhero film "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" remained at the top of the North American box office, taking in 22.2 million U.S. dollars during its fifth weekend in theaters, according to data released by measurement firm Rentrak on Sunday.
Based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man and starring Tom Holland in the titular role, the film has grossed 891.5 million dollars in North America and 2.332 billion dollars worldwide, making it the fourth-highest-grossing film of all time.
The live-action animated comedy film "Coyote vs. Acme," released by Ketchup Entertainment, opened in second place, earning 15.5 million dollars during its debut weekend.
Universal Pictures' epic action film "The Odyssey" landed in third place, taking in 14.3 million dollars in its seventh weekend in theaters. The film has now grossed a domestic cume of 563.8 million dollars and a global cume of 1.553 billion dollars through Sunday.
